Our Story

Meg and Luke’s journey to owning a business has not been direct–as a matter of fact, neither could have imagined this.

After graduating with degrees in Ceramics (Meg in Michigan) and Sociology/Spanish (Luke in Indiana), a love of travel and new experiences, the search for delicious food and a desire for meaningful connection to their community led them down this path.

Luke became interested in agriculture through sociology–the more he thought about it, the more important it became to get involved.  After various internships and jobs on organic vegetable farms, Shiloh Farm in Overton County was the first independent venture into agriculture.

Meghan’s ceramic background prepared her for the tactile side of bread and pastries.  She had a natural feel for the dough and the methodical movements of shaping.  Together they saw a need for a great bakery in Cookeville, like the ones they loved to visit in other towns when traveling.  So, with very little food service experience and zero knowledge of what it takes to run a business, Meg and Luke took the leap.
